Drug name: Polygynax
- Polymyxin B
Therapeutic effects of Polygynax: Polygynax is a preparation containing three substances: Neomycin, Nystatin, and Polymyxin B.
Neomycin is a aminoglycosides antibiotic medicine. This antibiotic induces the bacteria to develop abnormal proteins that make the normal survival of the bacteria impossible.
The second ingredient, Nystatin has an anti-fungal effect against Hystoplasma, Hystoplasma Cryptococcus, and Candida albicans. Like most other antifungal medication it achieves its purpose by blocking the production of an essential fungal enzyme called ergosterol. This substance is very essential for development of fungal cell wall.
On the other hand the third ingredient, Polymixin B works by increasing the permeability of the cell membrane of bacteria, which results in the death of this microorganism.
Polygynax possesses antifungal, and antibacterial properties. Polymyxin B and Neomycin are very effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus vulgaris, Haemophilus influenza, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecium, Enterobacter aerogenes, Corynebacterium, Staphylococcus aureus, and Ureaplasma urealyticum.
