Therapeutic effects of Mycosyst: Fluconazole belongs to a group of antifungal medicines known as triazoles and this medicine works by restricting fungal growth.
Indications: Fluconazole treats fungus-caused diseases like yeast infections. The said condition can occur in various parts of the body such as the vagina, mouth, throat, lungs, and blood among many others. This can also appear on the tube which connects the mouth and the stomach or the esophagus. The abdomen, or the area between the chest and waist, is not exempted from contracting this infection. Fluconazole can also be utilized to cure meningitis brought about by fungus as well. It is the infection of the membranes covering both the brain and spine. Fluconazole can also prevent the development of yeast infection for the patients who are susceptible to it. Those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant are of high risk. In the mentioned procedure, unhealthy spongy bone tissues found inside the bones are replaced with healthier ones.
Precautions and Restrictions: Prior to using Mycosyst:
- Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Mycosyst or similar antifungal medications such as voriconazole (Vfend), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), or any other substances.
- While using Mycosyst (Fluconazole) it is not advisable to also use cisapride (Propulsid).
- Talk to your physician or to a pharmacist about the medicines you are already using, be it non-prescribed medicines or herbal preparations, vitamins, health supplements, or medicinal substances such as quinidine (Quinidex); rifabutin (Mycobutin); rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane); sotalolol (Betapace); sparfloxacin (Zagam); tacrolimus (Prograf); terfenadine (Seldane)(not available in the United States); theophylline (TheoDur); thioridazine (Mellaril); valproic acid (Depakene, Depakote); azidovudine (Retrovir); diuretics ('water pills') such as hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL, Microzide); dofetilide (Tikosyn); erythromycin (E.E.S, E-Mycin, Erythrocin); isoniazid (INH, Nydrazid); moxifloxacin (Avelox); oral contraceptives (birth control pills); oral medicine for diabetes such as glipizide (Glucotrol), glyburide (Diabeta, Micronase, Glycron, others), and tolbutamide (Orinase); phenytoin (Dilantin); pimozide (Orap); procainamide (Procanbid, Pronestyl); amiodarone (Cordarone); anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin); , astemizole (Hismanal) (not available in the United States) ; , benzodiazepines such as midazolam (Versed);cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune); and disopyramide (Norpace).
- Also inform your doctor if you use alcoholic beverages on a regular basis and in large quantities, and also appraise him if you have arrhythmia, any heart, kidney or liver disease, if you have AIDS, or suffer from cancer.
- Also inform him if you're pregnant or planning to become in the near future. If you get pregnant while using this medicine then contact your doctor immediately.
Side effects of Mycosyst: Mycosyst capsules may give rise to some side effects that are contrary to what is expected. It is not certain that these adverse reactions will affect every user of this drug. If you experience any of the below mentioned side effects then inform your medical care provider:
- Dysgeusia
- Pyrosis
- Pain in the abdomen
- Diarrhea
- Lightheadedness
- Cephalalgia
Users of Mycosyst may also experience some serious side effects and if you do experience these then stop using the capsules and contact your doctor at once:
- Dyspepsia
- Fatigue
- Abnormal bleeding and bruising
- Extreme tiredness
- Poor appetite or appetite loss
- Right side abdominal pain
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
- Symptoms that resemble flu
- Hematuria
- Stools that is pale
- Convulsions
- Itching
- Rashes
- Hives
- Swelling of the lips, mouth, eye lids, face, and lower legs
- Breathing difficulty
- Dysphagia

Fluconazole, the ingredient of Mycosyst, is an inhibitor of the human cytochrome P450 system, particularly the isozymes CYP2C9 and CYP3A4. Fluconazole reduces the metabolism and enhances the concentration of any drug metabolized by the above mentioned enzymes. Additionally, its potential effect on QT interval increases the risk of cardiac arrhythmia if used concurrently with other drugs that prolong the QT interval.
