Therapeutic effect of Gynofort: Butoconazole nitrate, the active ingredient of Gynofort, is an effective antifungal medication that is categorized under the class imidazols. This is a highly potent antifungal medication which has proved its effectiveness against Epidermaphyton, Microsporum, Trichophyton and Candida. Apart from these microorganisms, Gynofort is also very effective against certain strains of gram positive bacteria. Gynofort's mode of action is to restrict the formation of ergosterol which plays a crucial role in the development of fungal cell. By inhibiting the production of ergosterol this drug increases the permeability of the fungal cell wall and ultimately causes its death. When applied this drug lasts for 4 to 5 days, which is enough to fully cure vaginal infection.
Indications: Gynofort cream is applied to treat infections of the vagina caused by Candida albicans.
Precautions and Restrictions: Do not use this medicine if:
- you are highly sensitive to the ingredients of this drug
- you are pregnant
- you are a breast-feeding mother
It is not advisable to use intra-vaginal diaphragms or condoms within three days after the application of Gynofort.
Side effects of Gynofort: Gynofort cream like all other medicines can cause certain unintended reactions on certain people. These adverse unintended reactions may or may not affect every user of this medicine. Some of the side effects of this cream are:
- Certain allergic reactions such as itching, burning feeling and rashes
- Stomach ache
- Swelling in the vagina (Vaginal hyperplasia)
