Drug name: Climen
Active Ingredients:
- cyproterone acetate,
- estradiol valerate
Therapeutic action of Climen: Women's body goes through changes at 45-50 years of age. During this phase the body changes and after this period women are no longer able to get pregnant. This phase is known as menopause and during this phase the menstrual cycle stops. The reason for this is that the body does not produce enough estrogen. When the level of this essential hormone drops certain painful symptoms and disorders start to manifest. Hence to replace the hormone the Climen tablets are used.
Indications: Climen is used to treat conditions such as:
- Climacteric symptomatology
- This drug is also used to treat osteoporosis which is common after menopause
Precautions and Restrictions: Try to avoid this drug if you have the following conditions:
- Osteoporosis during pregnancy, previous occurrence of herpes during pregnancy, problem in metabolism of fat, sickle cell diseases, severe diabetics with vascular changes, previous or existing thromboembolic processes, endometriosis, breast cancer or tumor of the ovaries, history of tumors in uterus or liver, itching during earlier pregnancy, live disorder, lactation, pregnancy, etc.
- Climen is not a hormonal oral birth control drug.
- People who are suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, swollen, twisted and sometimes painful veins, Thrombophlebitis, abnormal growth of bone near the middle ear, disease that affects the brain and spinal cord, epilepsy, porphyria, Sydenham's chorea, tetany.
- Use of this drug must be stopped at once if you experience severe headaches, sudden problem in the senses, symptoms of thrombophlebitis, chest pain, immobility, hepatitis, jaundice, epilepsy, increased blood pressure and pregnancy.
Side effects of Climen: There is always a distant possibility of some kind of adverse effect that is wholly unintended. These side effects are only a distant possibility and there are no prior proven records of such effects being caused by Climen. Some of the adverse effects that may occur are:
- During the early stages of CLimen treatment the patient may experience tension, Irregularities in the menstrual cycle, Gain or loss of weight, Change in sexual urge.
- Headache, Vomiting and nausea, Stomach ache, Flatulence, Decreased mood and swelling in the ankle.
- Hypertension, Muscle cramps, Back pain, Itching and various skin disorders.
- People who use other oral HRT preparations may experience painful periods, rashes, pre-menstrual like syndrome, indigestion, migraine, dizziness, anxiety and fatigue.
- The frequency with which menstrual bleeding fails to occur in the tablet-free interval normally increases as the duration of treatment increases.
- While using this drug if you experience prolonged period of unusual stomach ache then consult your doctor at once, because this may be an indication for rare but life threatening tumors in the liver.
- Stop taking Clemin at once if you experience the following: headaches or an increase of unusually severe headaches, sudden disturbances of vision or hearing, first signs of thromboembolic symptoms such as unusual pains in or swelling of the legs, stabbing pains on breathing or coughing for no apparent reason, a feeling of pain and tightness in the chest, onset of jaundice, onset of hepatitis, itching of the whole body, increase in epileptic seizures, significant rise in blood pressure.

Interactions: Medicinal drugs like Clemin have a tendency to react with other chemical substances hence it's best to get your doctor's approval before taking this or any other medicine. It's also a good idea to tell him the treatment or medicines you're currently using. Substances such as Rifampicin, Hydantoins, Phenylbutazone, Barbiturates react with Clemin to increase the metabolism of steroid hormones. Decreased effectiveness has resulted from prolonged use of some antibiotics such as Ampicillin. Insulin and other anti-diabetics medication can alter the effect of glucose tolerance.
