Therapeutic effect of Clexane: Clexane is made up of a substance called Enoxaparin sodium which is categorized as a low molecular weight heparin. This drug is used to reduce blood clotting. Clotting of blood is a natural process that happens in our body to prevent wastage of blood when an injury occurs. But sometimes blood clots can become harmful if they form abnormally and block the flow of blood to the vital organs of our body. Clexane is a very safe drug and it's not addictive.

Indications: Clexane is used to treat the following:

  • Clotting of blood
  • Clexane is used with aspirin to treat certain heart disorders like heart attacks and angina
  • To prevent blood clots during surgery or haemodialysis
  • To clear blood clots formed in the legs or deep vein. Usually doctors prescribe a dosage of 1mg/body weight twice a day. The doctors start Warfarin sodium therapy within 3 days of administering Clexane. This drug is usually administered in the stomach area, through the skin or tubing of dialysis machine. There are certain precautions that doctors should take, like not rubbing the area where the injection was administered and using disposable injections.

Precautions and Restrictions: It's not advisable to use Clexane if you have the following conditions:

  • Major diseases related to the blood
  • Stroke
  • Certain bowel or stomach disorders like ulcers
  • Bacterial heart infections

Clexane is not recommended for use in children, as the safety and effectiveness of Clexane in this group have not been established.

  • Fainting
  • Itching, hives and rashes
  • Swelling of the eyes, lips, face, tongue and other parts of the body
  • Breathlessness and difficulty in breathing

Side effects of Clexane: People using Clexane are susceptible to certain adverse reactions that are wholly or partly unexpected. These side effects may or may not occur and there is no proof that if these side effects are experienced by one person others will experience them as well. Some of the side effects that may occur after taking Clexane are:

  • Bleeding is a common side effect
  • Irritation, bruising or pain in the place where the injection was administered, these symptoms are not common so if you experience any of them contact a doctor at once
  • Swelling at the place of injection
  • Red itchy rashes at the place of injection

Interactions: Medicinal drugs like Clexane have a tendency to react with other chemical substances hence it's best to get your doctor's approval before taking this or any other medicine.   • NSAIDs
  • Medicines used to treat shock like Dextan 40
  • Drugs containing salicylates or aspirin
  • Drugs used in the treatment of blood clots
