Therapeutic effect of Euthyrox: The thyroid gland performs some of the most important functions in the body, so any damage to it can result in serious ailments. To replace the hormones secreted by thyroid and to ease the symptoms caused due to thyroid insufficiency drugs like Euthyrox are used. Euthyrox increases the oxygen intake by tissues. It helps in carbohydrates, proteins and lipid metabolism and improves the overall functioning of the central nervous system and the cardio vascular system. Euthyrox also eases the pain caused by symptoms like dry skin, weight gain, fatigue and cold.
Indications: Euthyrox is used for treating:
- Enlargement of the thyroid gland (Basedow's goiter)
- Thyroid cancer
- Hormone replacement and preventing from inflammation of thyroid after surgically removing it
- Insufficiency of thyroid hormone (primary and secondary hormone)
- Simple Nontoxic Goiter (Euthyroid goiter)
Precautions and Restrictions Do not use Euthyrox if you have or had the following:
- Heart attack
- Syndrome resulting from serum elevations in thyroid hormone levels (thyrotoxicosis)
- Any diseases of the adrenal gland that cannot be controlled
Your health care provider should correct the right dosage for you if you take insulin or oral diabetic drugs.
- Heart disorders such as coronary artery disease
- Lack of enough healthy red blood cells (Anemia)
- Disorder of the adrenal and pituitary gland
- Previous case of clotting of blood
- Experts say that Euthyrox can be used by pregnant or breast feeding women. If you are also using oral medicines for diabetic then it's best to talk to your doctor about dosage change.
Side effects of Euthyrox: If you are using Euthyrox there is always a distant possibility of some kind of adverse effect that is wholly or partly unintended. The below mentioned side effects are only a distant possibility and there are no prior proven records of such effects being caused by Euthyrox tablets.
Euthyrox is well tolerated but some may experience side effects such as diarrhea, loss of weight, increased sweating, sleeplessness, restlessness, tremor, heart rhythm disturbances and rapid heartbeat.

- Euthyrox increases the effect of indirect anticoagulant and reduces the effect of hypoglycemic agents
- Never use Euthyrox along with phenytoin and cholesteramine
- Euthyrox may react with clofibrate, furosemide and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
