Drug name: Singulair
Active Ingredients:
- Montelukast
Therapeutic effects of Singulair: Singulair has the active ingredient Montelukast. The said ingredient belongs to a group of drugs called antagonists of leukotriene receptors. Leukotrienes are substances produced naturally when various allergens enter the organism. These substances cause the lungs of an organism to have inflammatory reactions, swelling, bronchospasms as well as narrowing of the airways.
Singulair works by hindering leukotriene receptors thus preventing their effects. Montelukast causes bronchodilation within 2 hours after the application. Bronchodilation is enhanced by Beta2- adrenomimetics.
Indications: Singulair is used:
- To prevent and treat bronchial asthma in children over 6 and adults
- To prevent symptoms of bronchial asthma (both day time and night time)
- To treat bronchial asthma in people who are hypersensitive to aspirin
- To prevent bronchial spasm caused by physical overloads
- To prevent and treat allergic rhinitis
This medicine should not be used to treat asthma attacks.
Precautions and Restrictions: Do not use Singulair tablets if:
- You are increasingly sensitive to the ingredients of this medicine
- You suffer from acute form of renal and liver disorder
- If the user has Phenylketonuria
Observe caution and consult your doctor before taking this medicine if:
- You are pregnant
- You are a nursing mother
Side effects of Singulair tablets: Use of Singulair may cause certain side effects. The below mentioned side effects may not occur to every user of this medicine. Some of the common side effects are rashes in skin, stuffy nose, dizziness, pyrexia, pyrosis, dyspepsia, cough, abdominal pain, symptoms of flu and cold, and cephalalgia.
Few of the lesser occurring side effects are pneumonia, eczema, infection of the ear, diarrhea, and sore throat.
