Active Ingredients:

  • fluticasone propionate

Therapeutic effect of Flixotide: Fluticasone is a man made corticosteroid that is used as an anti-inflammatory drug. When this medicine is inhaled it diffuses into the lung cells and blocks the production of few enzymes in the cells. These enzymes in the cells play a crucial role in our body's defense mechanism and they are the ones that give rise to the various defense responses such as allergies and inflammation. Flixotide by blocking the release of these enzymes in the lungs reduces the swelling or inflammation.

Indications: Flixotide is used in the treatment of Asthma

Precautions and Restrictions: Observe caution under the following circumstances:

  • Diabetics
  • Active or inactive TB (tuberculosis) infection

Do not use Flixotide if:

  • You are highly sensitive to Fluticasone or other ingredients
  • The user is a young infant below the age of 4 or 16

Side effects: With inhalers like Flixotide there is always a distant possibility of some kind of adverse effects that are unexpected. These side effects are only a distant possibility and there is no prior proven records of such effects due to use of Flixotide.

Some of the side effects of Flixotide are:

  • Yeast infection of the mouth
  • Oral candida infection (Yeast infection of the mouth)
  • Irritation in the throat
  • Laryngitis (Hoarse voice)
  • Constriction of the respiratory tract (paradoxical bronchospasm)
  • Other disorders such as glaucoma, cataract, reduced bone mineral density (BMD), retardation of growth in children and adults, adrenal suppression, hormonal disorder caused due to high levels of cortisol in blood (Cushing's syndrome)

Flixotide when used along with the below mentioned substances can raise fluticasone levels in the blood:

  • Itraconazole
  • Ketoconazole
  • HIV-protease inhibitor such as ritonavir
