Drug name: Flavamed
Active Ingredients:
- Ambroxol
Therapeutic effect of Flavamed: Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent which dissolves the thick mucus in the respiratory tract, lowers the resistance of the bronchial secret and stimulates the functioning of the epithelium thereby removing the phlegm. Ambroxol also helps in the secretion of compounds that lower the surface tension of the mucus and improve the permeability of bronchial vascular barrier. Flavamed starts to take effect within just 30 minutes after intake and its effect lasts for about 6 to 12 hours.
Indications: Flavamed is used in the treatment of acute or long lasting disorder of the bronchi where the ailment is related to the production and discharge of mucus.
Precautions and Restrictions: Avoid use of Flavamed if you are:
- Highly sensitive to ingredients of this medicine
- Pregnant (I term)
- A breast feeding mother
- Born without the ability to properly break down an amino acid called phenylalanine (phenylketonuria)
Side effects: People using Flavamed tablets are susceptible to certain adverse reactions that are wholly or partly unexpected. These side effects may or may not occur and there is no proof that if these side effects are experienced by one person others will experience them as well. Some of the side effects that may occur after taking Flavamed are:
- Various allergic reactions such as life threatening anaphylactic shock, allergic reactions due to continuing contact with allergen, swelling of dermis, hives and rashes
- Painful urination, bolts, exanthema, dry mouth, diarrhea, fatigue and cephalalgia
- If used for a long period of time the user may experience vomiting, nausea and pain in the stomach
- When taken intravenously it may cause fever, cold, breathlessness, decreased AP, severe headaches, lack of strength and lack of activeness
