- Clobetasol propionate
Therapeutic effect of Dermovate: This medicine has anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory properties. Dermovate has clobetasol propionate as its main ingredient and it's a class of medicine known as topical corticosteroids. Dermovate is used for treating inflammations. Inflammations are caused because of the widening of the blood vessels which causes swelling, redness and itching. Dermovate when applied acts inside the skin and reduces the substance that causes these inflammations or widening of blood vessels, this automatically decreases the corresponding symptoms. Dermovate is one of the most effective anti-inflammatory medicines available, its best suited for dry skin and scaly skin.
Indications: Dermovate is used for treating discoid lupus erythematosus, itchy rash on the skin or in the mouth (lichen planus), chronic eczema, skin redness and irritation (psoriasis), and other skin diseases.
Precautions and Restrictions: Dermovate should not be used by people with the following conditions:
- Itching in the genital and anus
- Skin infections caused by Bacteria, Virus, and fungus
- Skin disorder in which tiny red bumps form around the mouth (Perioral dermatitis)
- Chronic skin condition that makes the face turn to red and may cause swelling (Acne rosacea)
- If the user is pregnant
- If the user is a breast feeding mother
- If the user is a young infant below 2 years of age
- Before applying this medicine it's advisable to clean the area of application and the treatment process must be strictly supervised by a doctor.
Side effects of Dermovate: The use of this medicinal drug may give rise to some side effects that are contrary to what is expected. It is not certain that these adverse reactions will affect every user of this drug. Some of the potential side effects of Dermovate include the following:
- Dryness of the skin
- Acne brought on by topical or oral usage of steroids
- Itching of the skin
- Burning sensation
Side effects which may occur if Dermovate is used for a long period:
- Reduction in skin barrier function
- Skin pigmentation disorder
- Local hirsutism
- Skin atrophy
If used on large surfaces then systemic side-effects can exert:
- Cushing Syndrome
- Rise in intraocular pressure
- Peptic ulcers
- Inflammation of the lining of the stomach (Gastritis)
