Therapeutic effects of Rileptid: Rileptid is an antipsychotic drug that also has sedative, antiemetic and hypothermal effects. Anti-psychotic action is linked with the obstruction of dopamine D2 receptors found in the brain. When the adrenoreceptors in the reticular formation in the brainstem is blocked, sedative actions or effects may be expected. Anti-emetic effects result from impeding the proper functioning of the dopamine receptors in the trigger zone of the vomiting center. Blockage of dopamine receptors in the hypothalamus is associated with the hypothermal effects of this medication.
Indications: Rileptid is administered to treat the following conditions:
- Disorder that makes it difficult to tell the difference between real and unreal experiences (Schizophrenia)
- Irritability (autism related)
- Bipolar affective disorder (Bipolar disorders or manic-depressive disorder)
Precautions and Restrictions: Avoid using Rileptid tablets under the following conditions:
- If you are increasingly sensitive to the components of this medicine
- If you are pregnant
- If you a nursing mother
Observe caution and talk to a doctor before using Rileptid if:
- You suffer from any cardio vascular disorders such as history of heart attack, disorder of cardiac conductivity, heart failure, etc
- Lack of adequate water or fluid in the body (Dehydration)
- Problems with the cerebral circulation
- Convulsions
- Serious renal or liver failure
- Drug misuse (drug abuse)
- Parkinson's disease
- Tumor in the brain
- Partial or complete obstruction of the bowels (Intestinal obstruction)
- Acute drug overdose
- Disease that affects the liver and brain (Reye's syndrome)
- If the user is below the age of 15
Side effects of Rileptid: The use of Rileptid tablets may cause some side effects, but it is not certain that these side effects will affect every user of this drug. Some of the potential side effects of Rileptid include the following:
The most common side effects of this medicine are dizziness, cephalalgia restlessness, increased salivation, increased agitation, sleeplessness, infection of the upper respiratory system, increase in appetite and somnolence.
Other side effects of this medicine are: increase in body weight, toothache, dry skin, pyrosis, runny nose, sore throat, changes in sight, myalgia, exhaustion, pyrexia, sexual problems, and acne.

Rileptid may react with the below mentioned substances:
- Drugs used to treat Schizophrenia such as Clozapine
- Serotonin reuptake inhibitors such as Paroxetine and Fluoxetine
- H2-histamine receptors blockers such as ranitidine and cimetidine
- Rifamycin antibiotics
- Medicines used as anticonvulsants
Additional Information: Rileptid should not be used without prior approval of a trained physician and don't share these drugs with anybody else. Rileptid tablets are made for specific conditions and it's not advisable to use for other purposes. Keep medicinal drugs out of the reach of children.
