Drug name: Actovegin
Active Ingredients:
- Free protein extract of calf blood
Therapeutic effect of Actovegin: Actovegin increases the absorption of oxygen and glucose in tissues. This antihypoxic drug contains amino acids, oligopeptides, nucleosides, and many other substances that activate piruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) thereby increasing the production of energy rich substances like glutamate, aspartate, GABA, phosphocreatine, ADP, and ATP. This drug also improves the metabolic activity of the body which results in improved blood circulation to the brain and also increases the energy of the cell.
Indications: Actovegin tablets are generally used in the treatment of:
- Abnormalities of the brain's blood vessels. This includes chronic blood circulation disorders in brain, Craniocerebral injury, and dementia
- Venous tropic ulcers and Angiopathy
- Cuts or punctures on the skin
- Chemical or thermal injury to the epidermal tissue and dermis
- Radiation induced peripheral neuropathy
Precautions and Restrictions: Actovegin is strictly off limits for people who are allergic to protein free hemo derivative extract from calf blood. If you have or suspect any of the bellow mentioned conditions, then it is best to consult a doctor before taking Actovegin:
- Heart failure
- Pulmonary edema
- Low output of urine due to kidney injury (Oliguria)
- None passage of urine (Anuria)
- Drinking too much water (hyper-hydration)
- Diabetes
- High blood glucose
- If you are pregnant
Side effects: The use of Actovegin to correct a specific disorder may cause certain adverse effects in certain users. Some of the potential side effects of Actovegin tablets include the following:
- Itchy weals or swellings in the skin (Nettle rash)
- Pyrexia
- Swelling or Edema
