Cerebrolysin one of the top nootropic drugs on the market
Cerebrolysin - nootropic drug
Cerebrolysin contains low molecular weight neuropeptides, which easily penetrate the blood-brain barrier and are absorbed by nervous cells. Thus, the drug increases the effectiveness of energetic metabolism, promotes intracellular protein synthesis, protects neurons from free radicale, thus exerting neuroprotective function, improves memory and cognitive functions.
The preparation is prescribed in treatment of the following disorders:
- Alzheimer's disease
- Dementia
- Chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency
- Iscemic insult
- Spinal or cerebral trauma
- Arrested development in children
- As complex therapy in antidepressant resistant depression
As any other drug cerebrolysin is restricted for use in certain cases, such as increased sensitivity to the drugs components, or known allergic reactions to any other drugs of the same origin, acute liver failure, epilepsy.
The drug should be administered with extreme care during the first trimester of pregnancy. The results of in vivo research which has been performed on the effects of Cerebrolysin during pregnancy in mice, does not allow to state that the drug exerts any teratogenic or toxic effects, on the fetus. However clinical research has not been performed.
Simultaneous use of the drug with antidepressants or MAO inhibitors may potentate their effect, thus should be avoided. The drug may cause overall body temperature increase if the infusions are made too rapidly.
