Therapeutic effect of Indometacin: Indomethacin is NSAIDs medication (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). This compound works by inhibiting the secretion of prostaglandin which plays a vital role in formation of inflammation and other allergic symptoms. Indomethacin by blocking the development this chemical reduces inflammation and other symptoms that are part of our body's defense mechanism. Indomethacin also acts as pain killer.

Indications: Indomethacin is administered to treat:

  • Pain during menstruation (Dysmenorrhea)
  • Severe inflammation of joints due to uric acid increase in blood (Acute gout)
  • Swelling in the joints
  • Pain in the muscles (myalgia)
  • Pain in the back
  • Pain experienced after surgery

Precautions and Restrictions:

  • Use of Indomethacin may cause dizziness so it is best not to drive or use machinery.
  • This medicine may cause vision problems, so you should ask your doctor to constantly monitor you. And if you experience any sight disturbances while using this drug, then visit a doctor at immediately.
  • Periodic blood tests are recommended if you are taking this medicine for a long period.

Observe cautious under the following circumstances:

  • If you have asthma
  • If the user is a child
  • If the user is an aged person
  • If the user has Epilepsy
  • If the user suffers from any heart ailment
  • Infection
  • If the user suffers from any renal disease
  • Liver disorder
  • Disorder of the brain that causes shaking and other problems (Parkinson's disease)
  • Mental disorders

Do not use Indometacin under the following circumstances:

  • If you are allergic to aspirin or other drugs of its class
  • If you have peptic ulcer
  • If you have piles or haemorrhoids
  • If you suffer from ulcer caused by NSAIDs

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to this medicine or the ingredients of this drug. If you experience any allergic reaction then stop taking the drug at once and visit a medical care provider immediately.

Side effects of Indometacin: Users of Indomethacin may experience adverse effects that are unexpected. There is only a distant possibility of side effects to occur and there is no prior proven records of such effects due to use of Indomethacin or it has not been proven that everyone, who is using this drug will have the bellow mentioned effects.

Interactions Indometacin can increase the effectiveness of the following medicines: anti-clotting medicines, zidovudine, tiludronic acid, quinolone antibiotics, phenytoin, methotrexate, lithium preparations, haloperidol, digoxin, desmopressin, cyclosporine, and baclofen. Similarly Indometacin when taken with medicine used to treat diabetics can increase their effectiveness and cause hypoglycemia.

The following medicine can increase the therapeutic effect and the side effects of Indometacin: steroids, ritonavir, probenecid, oxpentifylline, and moclobemide. Indometacin may reduce the effectiveness of diuretics and blood pressure lowering drugs. Indometacin when used with water pills or ACE inhibitors can cause renal disorders or potassium imbalance. Do not use Indometacin or any NSAIDs within 8 to 12 days of taking mifepristone. Never use Indometacin with other Non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs.

Additional Information: Indometacin should not be used without a prior approval of a trained physician and don't share these drugs with anybody else. Indometacin is made for specific conditions and it's not advisable to use them for other purposes. Keep the drugs out of the reach of children.
