Active Ingredients:

  • methylprednisolone

Therapeutic effect of Metypred: Methylprednisolone is placed under the synthetic corticosteroid group. This Corticosteroid hormone may be used in many situations. The main function of Methylprednisolone is to impede the spreading of chemicals that cause inflammations and allergic reactions. Aside from that, it can also diminish the number of white blood cells. By doing so, the likelihood of white blood cells attacking foreign tissues during organ transplant is declined as well. This prevents internally triggered rejections of new organs during operations.

Indications: Metypred is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Diseases of the endocrine glands, such as Adrenal insufficiency
  • Rheumatoid diseases such as epicondylitis, post-traumatic osteoarthrosis, acute gouty arthritis, unspecific tendosynovitis, spondylarthtiris, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, etc
  • Conditions like rheumatic poly-myalgia, acute rheumatic carditis, poly-myositis, system lupus erythematosis, etc
  • Skin related disorders, such as severe seboreic dermatitis, severe psoriasis, dermatitis
  • Diseases of the respiratory system like asthma, pulmonary tuberculosis, Loeffler syndrom, Symptomatic sarcoidosis, etc
  • Ailments related to blood such as hypoplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, secondary thrombocytopenia, idiopathic thrombocytopenia
  • Digestive system disorders such as enteritis, and non specific colitis
  • Lymphatic leukemia
  • Cancer of the lymphocytes (Lymphoma)
  • Inflammation of the optic nerve (optic neuritis)
  • Sweeling of the uvea (iritis)
  • Edema syndrome
  • Inflammation of the liver (Hepatitis)
  • Autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord (Multiple sclerosis)

For the parenteral application:

  • Hepatic encephalopathy
  • Serious liver inflammation (Acute hepatitis)
  • Thyrotoxic crisis
  • Adrenal insufficiency
  • Bronchial asthma
  • Excess accumulation of water in the intracellular or extracellular spaces of the brain (Cerebral edema)
  • Serious allergic reactions
  • State of shock

Precautions and Restrictions: Never use this medicine under the following circumstances:

  • If you are allergic or highly sensitive to Methylprednisolone
  • If you have fungal infection
  • If you are pregnant
  • If you are a nursing mother

  • Various liver disorders
  • Thinning of the bone tissue (Osteoporosis)
  • Steroids induced muscle diseases
  • Intestinal anastomosis
  • Inflammation of the veins caused by blood clots (Thrombophlebitis)
  • Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB)

Warning! Do not use Metypred for a long period of time.

  • Metypred should never be taken with chickenpox vaccine.
  • Never discontinue half way through the treatment.
  • Users of Metypred may experience hypertension while using this medicine.
  • This medicine has the tendency to mask the symptoms of certain infections.

Side effects of Metypred: There are some side-effects of this drug which may affect individuals in separate ways. It is not necessary that the patient using Metypred may suffer from any of these side-effects or any other similar symptoms. Some most common side-effects are listed below:

  • Hyperglycemia
  • Polyphagia
  • Weight gain
  • High susceptible to infections and increased severity of infections
  • Effects on the digestive system such as upset stomach, pain in the abdomen, vomiting, urge to vomit, etc
  • Throat ulcer and Oral Candida Infection
  • Myasthenia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Increased risk of bone fracture
  • Problems of the skin, such as frazonism, change in skin pigmentation, increased perspiration, striae, bruising, acne, slow healing, thinning of the skin, etc
  • Psychiatric problems, such as disturbances in sleep, loss of memory, confusion, anxiety, hallucinations, depression, irritability, etc
  • Cushing's syndrome and round face
  • Changes in the menses
  • Fluid and sodium retention
  • High blood pressure
  • Hiccups
  • Pseudohypokalemia
  • Hypoadrenalism
  • Eye related problems such as glaucoma, cataracts, etc
  • Slowed growth in children and adolescents
  • Deep venous thrombosis

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Anticoagulants
  • Medicines used to treat diabetes
  • Dimethylxanthine
