Therapeutic effects of Lopril: Lisinopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme also known as ACE inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount release of certain chemicals that tightens up the blood vessels. When this happens, blood flow becomes smoother thus allowing the heart to pump blood throughout the body in a more efficient manner.
Indications: Lisinopril can be utilized to treat high blood pressure or hypertension as well as congestive heart failure. This medication can also help increase survival rates after experiencing a heart attack. Lisinopril comes in tablet form to be taken once a day. Doctors may recommend low dosage at the beginning and increase it as you further on the treatment.
Precautions and Restrictions: Avoid using this medicine if you are allergic to lisinopril or other ACE inhibitor, trandolapril (Mavik), ramipril (Altace), quinapril (Accupril), perindopril (Aceon), moexipril (Univasc), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril (Monopril), captopril (Capoten), or benazopril (Lotensin).
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions and if you have any of the below mentioned conditions. You may also need to undergo special monitoring or examination and may require a dosage change:
- Any renal disorder
- If you are on dialysis
- Any liver disorder
- Any ailment related to the heart such as Heart Failure
- Diabetes
- Any disease of the connective tissues such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma, Sjogren's syndrome, or Marfan syndrome.
Lopril is placed in Pregnancy category D by FDA, so do not use this medicine before talking to a doctor about your pregnancy or your plan to get pregnant. This medicine may cause birth defects or even affect the fetus. Hence if you get pregnant while using Lopril, then stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately. There are no reports to show that Lopril may pass into mother's milk, but none-the-less do not use this medicine before consulting your medical care provider.
Side effect of Lopril: If you are using this drug then you may experience certain side effects that are contrary to what is expected. It is not certain that these adverse reactions will affect every user of this drug. Some of the potential side effects of Lopril tablets include the following:
- Rashes
- Decreased libido
- Runny nose
- Sternutation
- Weakness
- Diarrhea
- Dyspepsia
- Fatigue
- Cephalalgia
- Lightheadedness
- Cough
Below mentioned are some of the serious side effects which are rare, but may occur sometimes. If you experience any of these then stop taking Lopril and visit a doctor at once:
- Pain in the chest
- Syncope
- Dizziness
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes
- Symptoms of infection such as cold, sore throat, fever, etc
- Breathing difficulty
- Dysphagia
- Harsh or strained voice
- Swelling in face, lips, mouth, mouth, or lower legs

Interactions: Prior to taking Lopril tablets it is best to consult a medical care provider or expert and also apprise him of the medication you are currently under. Lopril tablets may react with the following drugs:
- Substances that promotes formation of urine (diuretic) such as metolazone (Mykrox, Zarxolyn), indapamide (Lozol), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, HydroDiuril), amiloride (Midamor), bumetanide (Bumex), chlorthalidone (Hygroton, Thalitone), ethacrynic acid (Edecrin), furosemide (Lasix).
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), diclofenac (Voltaren), diflunisal (Dolobid), etodolac (Lodine), flurbiprofen (Ansaid), indomethacin (Indocin), ketoprofen (Orudis), ketorolac (Toradol), mefenamic acid (Ponstel), meloxicam (Mobic), nabumetone (Relafen), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene).
- Oral medications used for treating diabetes.
- Potassium preparations.
- Potassium supplements such as Klor-Con, K-Dur.
- Lithium preparations such as Eskalith, Lithobid.
