Therapeutic effect of Kardiket: Isosorbide dinitrate or Dilatrate is a nitrate used to widen blood vessels. This compound relaxes the muscles of the arteries and veins and dilates them. This mechanism allows free flow of blood which reduces the pressure of blood and reduces the work load of the heart.
Indications: Kardiket is administered to prevent and treat chest pain due to lack of oxygenated blood supplied to the heart muscles (Angina).
Precautions and Restrictions: If the below mentioned conditions applies to you then it's best to talk to a doctor before taking Kardiket.
- Previously had a heart attack
- Had heart failure
- Suffer from hypotension
- Previously had a cerebrovascular accident, ischemic attack, or any head injury
- Suffer from lack of healthy red blood cells (anemia)
- Allergic to nitrates
- Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
- Have moderate or severe headache (migraines)
- Suffer from any renal disorder
- Suffer from any liver disorder
Some people require constant monitoring while using this drug, they may also require dosage change.
FDA has placed this medicine in the Pregnancy Category C, so the effect of this drug on pregnant women is not known. Pregnant women are advised to never use this medicine before consulting a doctor.
The same goes for nursing mothers too. It is not known whether Kardiket passes into the milk, hence it best to talk to a medical expert before using this medicine.
Kardiket may cause drowsiness, so users of this drug who experience dizziness are advised not to drive or use heavy machinery.
Use of alcohol along with this medicine may cause the following effects: Hypotension (very low blood pressure), loss of balance, and somnolence.
Side effects of Kardiket: Users of Kardiket tablets may experience adverse effects that are wholly unexpected. These side effects are only a distant possibility and there is no prior proven records of such effects due to use of Kardiket tablets or it has not been proven that everyone using this drug will show the bellow mentioned effects.
Seek medical attention at once if you experience any of the below mentioned side effects:
- Certain allergic reactions such as hives; swelling of the face, tongue, or lips; throat closing, and shortness of breath
- Dry mouth and blurry vision
- Abnormal heart rhythm
- Syncope
Below mentioned are some of the not so serious side effects. If you experience any of these you can continue using Kardiket, but it is recommended to talk to a doctor about the reactions you are experiencing.
- Lack of strength
- Swollen ankles
- Tachycardia
- Vomiting and sensation to vomit
- Reddening of face, chest, and neck
- Loss of balance
- Cephalalgia

- Never take Kardiket with sildenafil (Viagra), because they may react to cause life threatening low blood pressure.
- If you are about to use Kardiket then it is best to talk to a doctor if you are taking dihydroergotamine or medicines used to treat hypertension or Arrhythmia. If you are taking these drugs then talk to your doctor about dosage change and regular monitoring of your body condition.
- It is not advisable to use alcohol while using Kardiket, because alcohol dilates the blood vessel which in turn causes very low blood pressure, loss of balance, and somnolence.
- Apart from the above mentioned medicines other drugs may also react with Kardiket, so it is best to consult a doctor before taking any new medicine.
