Drug name: XALATAN

Active Ingredients:

• latanoprost ophthalmic

Therapeutic effects of Xalatan: Xalatan is used to bring down the eye pressure. It acts by increasing the quantity of fluid that is drained from the eye.

Indications: Xalatan eye drops are used to treat ocular Hypertension in patients with open-angle glaucoma.

Precautions and Restrictions:

• Care must be taken not to bring the tip of the dropper in contact to any other surface including hands or even eyes as it may affect the sterility of the dropper. Any contamination of the tip my result in an infection of the eye and can even possibly lead to loss of vision.
• Benzalkonium chloride is a preservative added in Xalatan and so wearing of soft contact lenses during medication is advised only after at least 15 minutes of drug intake.
• Talk to your doctor about your medical history before consuming this drug as any other medical condition could easily complicate your illness and hence requires special monitoring.
• The FDA lists Xalatan in the Pregnancy Category C, the effect of Xalatan on an unborn baby is not known. In case of pregnancy or possibility of pregnancy during treatment, have a talk with your doctor regarding further treatment. Similarly the passage of Xalatan through breast milk is not known. If you are breast feeding your baby, do not use Xalatan without consulting a doctor.

Side effects of Xalatan: Xalatan may cause some side effects, but it is not certain that these side effects will affect every user of this drug. Some of the potential side effects of Xalatan include:

• If you experience any symptoms of infections such as redness of eye, itching, or discharge from eye, then visit a doctor immediately.
• Some of the common side effects of this medicine are burning, stinging, itching, redness, blurred vision, dry eye, tearing, or eyelid irritation. If you experience these effects then you can continue using this eye drops but it is best to inform your condition to your doctor.
• Users with green or blue eye may notice that the color of iris may change, and the longer they use the darker the iris will become. Color changes may occur only in the eye being treated.
