Active Ingredients:
- Tetrahydrozoline (Tetryzoline) hydrochloride
Therapeutic effects of Visine: Tetryzoline hydrochloride is called a vascoconstrictor and hence is an active ingredient in Visine. One of the main reasons the eye's become red is because a foreign object or irritants enter the eye. This is because the blood vessels in the eye swell up in response to the object. Visine constricts the swollen blood vessels and reduces the redness.
Indications: Visine eye drops are applied to patients to treat:
- Eye sores and red eyes
- Itching, burning, or congestion in the eye that is caused by dust, smoke, and other irritants
- Irritation or swelling of conjunctiva
- Eye Allergies
- Acute inflammation of the conjunctiva (catarrhal conjunctivitis)
Precautions and Restrictions: It is not advisable to use Visine eye drops:
- If the user is allergic to the components of this medicine
- If the user is below the age of 2
- If the user is suffering from any injury to the cornea (epithelial dystrophy)
Before using this eye drops the user should talk to a doctor if he has the following conditions:
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Tumor of the adrenal glands (Pheochromocytoma)
- Thyrotoxicosis
- Abnormal widening or ballooning of a portion of an artery due to weakness in the wall of the blood vessel (Aneurysm)
- Any disease of the cardiovascular system
- Pregnancy
- Lactation
Stop using Visine eye drops if:
- There is pain in the eyes
- If you experience changes in vision
- If you experience irritation or redness in the eye which lasts for more than three days
Warning!
- If you use contact lenses, then remove it before application of Visine eye drops. Insert the contact lenses 15 minutes after the application of this medicine.
- An overdose of this medicine may cause more eye redness
- It is not advisable to use this medicine if the solution has changed color.
- Do not touch the tip of the container as it may contaminate the medicine.
- It is not advisable to drive or operate machinery if you are using this medicine.
- Visine eye drops should be stored at 15° to 25°C
Side effects of Visine eye drops: While using Visine eye drops there is always a distant possibility of some kind of adverse effect that is unexpected. The side effects mentioned below are only a distant possibility and there is no prior proven records of such effects will occur to every user of Visine. Some of the side effects that users may experience are:
- Stinging, itching, or burning sensation after application
- Transient increase in organ blood flow that occurs following a brief period of ischemia (Reactive hyperemia)
- Ocular Hypertension
- Dilation of the pupil (Mydriasis)
