Active Ingredients:
- furosemide
Therapeutic effect of Lasix: Furosemide, the active ingredient of Lasix, belongs to a group of drugs called loop diuretics. This type of medicines promotes urine formation in the kidney, so that more water is removed from the body by urination. Furosemide decreases the pressure inside the blood vessels by reducing fluid content in the body.
Indications: Lasix is used for removing excess water and fluids from the body. This excess fluid that needs to be removed is the result of heart failure, kidney diseases, liver disorders, and ailments of the lungs.
Precautions and Restrictions: Do not use Lasic under the following circumstances:
- Allergic or intolerant to the active ingredient of Lasix
- Decreased blood volume (hypovolemia)
- Brain damage occurring because the liver is no longer able to remove toxic substances (hepatic encephalopathy)
- Lower than normal amount of potassium in the blood (Hypokalemia)
- Non-passage of urine (anuria)
- Dehydration
- Renal failure due to kidney and liver damaging agents
- Lack of enough sodium in the body fluids outside the cells (hyponatremia)
- Allergic to sulphonamides
- Pregnancy
- Lactation

- Cramping of muscles
- Various allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, hives, swelling of face, lips, and tongue, and throat closing sensation

- Probenecid such as Benemid
