Drug name: Coldrex

Active Ingredients:

  • Paracetamol(acetaminophen), Phenylephrine, Caffeine, Terpin hydrate, ascorbic acid

Therapeutic effect of Coldrex< Coldrex has many ingredients which have their own properties, these combine to give this drug analgesic and antipyretic properties. Ascorbic acid is an anti-oxidant that reduces the free radicals released during metabolism. They also normalize the capillaries, help in the formation of hormones, blood clotting, regeneration of tissues and carbohydrates metabolism. Another substance, Paracetamol by blocking ciclooxygenase lowers the temperature and eases the pain.

Terpin hydrate exerts expectorate action. Phenylephrin mimics the effect of sympathetic nervous system. It reduces the mucous lining in the nose thereby helping nasal breathing and decrease the swelling caused due to fluid retention. Coldrex with larger levels of paracetamol enhances its action against flu and cold symptoms. Coldrex +Vitamin C tablets contain caffeine which stimulates the central nervous system.

Indications: Coldrex is used to treat the following:

  • Inflammation of the tonsils
  • Symptoms of Acute Respiratory Diseases
  • Paranasal sinuses
  • Throat pain
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Cold
  • Cephalalgia
  • Pyrexia

Precautions and Restrictions: Do not take Coldrex if you have the following conditions:

  • Habitual use of alcohol
  • Eye conditions like Closed-angle glaucoma
  • Benign enlargement of the prostate
  • Different types of cardio vascular diseases
  • Hereditary lactose deficiency
  • Diabetics
  • Thyrotoxicosis
  • Renal failure
  • Liver disorder
  • Allergic reactions to Coldrex or its ingredients
  • If you're pregnant
  • If you're a breast feeding mother
  • If the user of this drug is below 12 years of age
  • It's not advisable to consume alcohol while taking Coldrex. Consult a doctor if you have cold or flu even after taking Coldrex for more than 5 days.
  • This drug should be taken with caution in benignant hyperbilirubinemia and deficiency of G6PD.

Side effects of Coldrex: With therapeutic drugs there is always a distant possibility of some kind of adverse effect that is wholly or partly unintended. The above stated side effects are only a distant possibility and there are no prior proven records of such effects being caused by Coldrex.

Some of the adverse effects that may occur while using Coldrex are:

  • If Coldrex is used for a long period chemical driven liver and kidney damage may occur
  • Headache
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Cardio vascular disorders like high heart rate and high blood pressure may occur
  • Failure of the bone marrow
  • Decrease in leukocytes
  • Decrease in amount of platelets
  • Hives, skin rashes, and Angioedema

  • Coldrex when taken with antipsychotic, antiparkinsonian, and antidepressants may cause constipation, dry mouth, and retention of urine
  • Coldrex increases the effect of ethanol, sedative preparations, and MAO inhibitors
  • When Coldrex is used with drugs like zidovudine, rifampicin, carbamazepine, and other similar drugs there is an increased risk of developing hepatotoxic effects
