Therapeutic effect of Generic Alesse: Generic Alesse is an oral birth control medicine that belongs to a class of drugs known as combined oral contraceptive. It contains a mix of two separate hormones. Generic Alesse's mode of action is to inhibit gonadotropic function of the pituitary gland. By preventing the gonadotropic function this drug prevents the formation of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone (i.e. they curb the development of follicle and stops ovulation).
Indications: Generic Alesse is indicated for prevention of undesirable pregnancy (hormonal contraception).
Precautions and Restrictions: Avoid using Generic Alesse under the following circumstances:
- Highly sensitive to the ingredients of this medicine
- Formation of blood clot (both in veins and arteries) and thrombosis of different types
- Starting stages of thrombosis
- Vascular Complications of Diabetes
- Serious liver ailments such as jaundice, liver failure etc.
- Headache (Migraine)
- Inflammation of the pancreas with high blood cholesterol levels
- Pregnancy
- Lactation
- Mild jaundice throughout life (Dubin-Johnson syndrome)
- Rotor type hyperbilirubinemia
- Condition in which the red blood cells form an abnormal crescent shape (Sickle cell anemia)
- Condition in which hemoglobin is not made properly (Porphyria)
- Lipid metabolism disorder
- Severe high blood pressure
- Hardening of the arteries (Atherosclerosis)
- Epilepsy
- Mammary glands and genitals disorder caused by hormones
- Bleeding of vagina
- Abnormal growth of bone near the middle ear (Otosclerosis)
Side effects of Generic Alesse: Contraceptive tablets can cause certain side effects that are wholly of partly unintended. The below mentioned adverse reactions may or may not occur and proof of such reactions experienced by one person is no proof that these effects will occur in other patients as well. Some of the side effects that may result from the use of Generic Alesse tablets are:
- Fatigue and weakness
- Pain in the chest
- Pain in the shoulders and arms
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Increased perspiration
- Migraine
- Depression
Other reactions that may occur are excessive hair growth, getting tired very easily, decreased sex drive, changes in the menstrual cycle, weight gain, bleeding in vagina and changes in appetite.

- Opiate based drugs that act as central nervous system depressants (Barbiturates)
- Medicines used to treat seizures (Anti-epileptic drugs)

- Immunosuppressive agents such as Cyclosporine
- Alkaloids such as xanthine
- Corticosteroids
- Vitamin C
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Tylenol
