Active Ingredients:

  • ethinyl estradiol, gestoden

Therapeutic effect of Femoden: Femoden is a hormonal contraception medication with two main ingredients, gestoden and ethinyl estradiol, which are similar to the female sex hormones produced by the body. Ethinyl estradiol performs the function of the naturally occurring estrogen and gestodene does the function of progesterone. Femoden functions in three ways. This contraception medication suspends ovulation on the level of hepato-hypophysic regulation, it modifies the cervical properties so that it becomes impossible for the sperm to penetrate and it modifies the endotermis to make the implant of fertilized ovule impossible. Apart from these functions Femoden regulates the menstrual cycle, decreases the bleeding and reduces the pain caused by menstrual cycle.

Indications: Femoden is used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.

Precautions and Restrictions: Do not use Femoden or any other hormonal contraceptive if you have the following conditions:

  • Formation of blood clots (Thrombosis)
  • Phase before Thrombosis
  • Moderate to severe headaches (Migraine)
  • Insular diabetes
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (Pancreatitis)
  • Liver and Kidney failure
  • Benign or malignant tumors of the liver
  • Hormone dependant tumors
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • If the user is pregnant
  • If the user is a breast feeding mother
  • High sensitivity to ingredients of this drug
  • Surgery, long-term immobilization
  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension
  • Any disorder of the coronary arteries or brain vessels
  • Problem with the rhythm of the heartbeat (arrhythmia)
  • Venous and Arterial Thrombosis

Side effects of Femoden: People using Femoden may experience certain side effects, but the below mentioned adverse reactions may or may not occur. Just because side effects are stated here it does not mean that everyone using this medicine will experience these side effects. Some of the side effects associated with the use of this medicine are: clotting of blood, fatigue, diarrhea, weight gain, fluid excretion disorder, cholestasis, jaundice, itching, inflammatory disorder called erythema nodosum, rashes, irritation, changes in vaginal discharge, stomach ache, vomiting, nausea, fever, sight problems, mood swing, changing sex drive, moderate or severe headache, vaginal bleeding, nipple problems and mammary glands enlargement.

Interactions: Femoden tablets may react with other medicines or compounds, so consult a trained physician before taking any medicine. Some of the substances that may react with Femoden are:

  • Taking different contraceptive drugs may reduce the effect of Femoden so talk to the doctor about the medicines you are currently using.
  • Femoden or other contraceptives used with antibiotics can lower the efficacy of Femoden
  • Use of liver enzymes for a long period of time can cause vaginal bleeding and decrease the effect of Femoden
  • Femoden when taken with derivatives of pirazolon such as Sulfonamid drugs can increase the metabolism of steroidal hormones

Additional Information: Femoden tablets should not be used without prior approval of a trained physician and don't share these drugs with anybody else. Contraceptives such as Femoden are made for specific conditions and it's not advisable to use them for other purposes. Keep medicinal drugs out of the reach of children.
