Drug name: Trichopol
Other names used:
- Flagyl®
Active Ingredients:
- Metronidazole
Therapeutic effects of Trichopol: Trichopol is an anti protozoa agent with antibacterial capabilities. Action mechanism is linked to the biochemical reduction of metranidaziole 5-nitrogroup through the intracellular transport proteins of anaerobic microorganisms and protozoa. The 5-nitrogroup interacts with the microorganisms' DNA cells; this disrupts the synthesis of nucleic acids. This interruption is fatal to the microorganisms.
Trichopol can be effectively used against Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis, Entamoeba histolytica. This reliable effect also holds true for anaerobic bacteria Bacteroides spp. like Bacteroides fragilis, Bacteroides distasonis, Bacteroides ovatus, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Bacteroides vulgatus, as well as Fusobacterium spp. and Veillonela spp.
A number of gram-positive bacteria can also be affected by Trichopol, this includes Eubacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Peptococcus spp., and Peptostreptococcus spp.
