Active Ingredients:

  • tinidazole

Therapeutic effect of Fasigyn: Fasigyn is a drug used to treat various protozoan infections that mainly affect the intestine and liver. This medicine is also very effective in treating sexually transmitted diseases.

Indications: Fasigyn is used to treat infections caused by:

  • Giardia lamblia
  • Entamoeba histolytica
  • Trichomonas vaginalis

Fasigyn is orally administered to treat:

  • Infection of the intestine caused by Entamoeba histolytica (Intestinal amoebiasis)
  • Amoebic liver abscess
  • Infection of the small intestine caused by Giardia lamblia (Giardiasis)
  • Urogenital trichomoniasis in both men and women. When treatment is given for Trichomonas vaginalis, the male partner must be examined and treated as well.

The treatment of acute ulcerative gingivitis.

  • Bacterial infections caused after surgery such as gynaecological surgery, gastro-intestinal surgery and colonic.
  • Bacterial infections caused by veillonella, eubacteria, clostridia, peptostreptococci, peptococci etc.
  • Acute ulcerative gingiviti

Precautions and Restrictions: Stop using Fasigyn if you have a history of blood disorders (blood dyscrasia), if you are pregnant or if you are a breast feeding mother. Do not use Fasigyn if you are highly sensitive to this drug or any of its ingredients or if you are suffering from any organic neurological disorder.

Side effects of Fasigyn: Some of the common side effects caused due to the use of Fasigyn are:

  • Gastrointestinal reactions such as stomach ache, metallic taste, diarrhea, decreased sensation of appetite, vomiting and nausea.
  • Transient leucopenia
  • Hematuria (dark urine), black hairy tongue, fatigue and cephalalgia
  • Allergic reactions such as angioneurotic oedema, urticaria oedema, itching and skin rashes

Interactions: Fasigyn may react with certain medicines so talk to your doctor before taking some of the below mentioned substances:

  • Lithium preparations such as Eskalith and Lithobid
  • Phenytoin such as Dilantin
  • Oxytetracycline based medicines such as Terramycin
  • Cholestyramine based drugs such as Questran
  • Medicines containing fluorouracil such as Flurorplex, Carac, Efudex and Adrucil
  • Drugs containing cyclosporine like Sandimmune and Neoral or containing tacrolimus such as Prograf
  • Substances like warfarin which is present in Coumadin
  • Barbiturate drugs such as secobarbital, amobarbital and Phenobarbital
  • Avoid taking alcohol while using Fasigyn and the user of this drug is allowed to take alcohol 3 days after the treatment of Fasigyn is finished. Use of alcohol with Fasigyn can cause perspiration, vomiting, nausea, rapid heartbeat and flushing.

Additional Information: Drugs like Fasigyn tablets should not be used without prior approval of a doctor and don't share these drugs with anybody else. Fasigyn tablets are made for specific conditions and it's not advisable to use them for other purposes. Keep medicinal drugs, needles, syringes and other such medical substances out of the reach of children.
