Terbisil

Drug name: Terbisil

Other names used:

  • LamisilĀ®
  • Lamisil ATĀ®

Active Ingredients:

  • terbinafine

Therapeutic effects of Terbisil: Like other allylamines, Terbinafine prevents ergosterol synthesis by hindering the squalene epoxidase which is an enzyme. The said substance is a part of the fungal cell wall synthesis pathway and not the cell membrane. In simpler terms, it does not allow the growth of both fungal and bacterial cell wall. This causes the contents of the cell to be unprotected which results to their death.

Indications: Terbisil is a broad-spectrum antifungal medication. At low concentrations, Terbisil can be used against dermatophytes, moulds and certain dimorphic fungi. This medication exerts a fungicidal and fungistatic effect on yeasts depending on its specie. Terbisil is a suitable treatment for fungal infections that are sensitive to terbinafine like Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris and Tinea pedis which is caused by dermatophytes. Its use is also beneficial to the treatment of onchomycosis, a terbinafine-sensitive fungal infection of the nails that is caused by dermatophytes.

Precautions and Restrictions:

  • It is important to finish your full course of the treatment.
  • Inform your doctor if the symptoms you experience do not go away within 3 days of using this medicine.
  • This medicine must not come in contact with eye, nose, mouth, or other sensitive areas, and if this happens wash or rinse the area with plenty of water.
  • Most of the fungi thrive on moist areas so keep your skin dry and wear clean cloths and socks every day.
