Therapeutic effect of Duloxetine:
Duloxetine is a SNRI (serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor) used for treating depression and anxiety disorders. This drug is also approved by Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pain, especially musculoskeletal. Duloxetine is also very effective in reducing pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Indications: Duloxetine is used in the treatment of:
- Depression
- Pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (which is the damage to nerves due to high blood sugar)
Precautions and Restrictions: It is not advisable to take Duloxetine if you have one of the following conditions:
- High sensitivity to Duloxetine or similar substances
- Uncompensated - angle closure glaucoma
- If the user is a breast feeding mother
- Kidney or liver disorder, dilation of pupil (mydriasis), suicidal tendency, increase of irritable mood, pregnancy, seizures
Side effects of Duloxetine: Users of this drug may experience certain side effects that are associated with the use of Duloxetine. These side effects do not occur in all people who use this drug. Some of the adverse reactions that users of this drug may experience are:
- Dizziness but not vertigo
- Constipation, nausea, dry mouth
- Sleeplessness (Insomnia), headache (cephalalgia)
Some of the rare side effects are:
- Loss of weight, loss of appetite, tremors, vomiting, diarrhea
- Lack of sharpness of vision, flushing, Perspiration, weakness
- Inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual performance
- Abnormal ejaculation, anorgasmia, low sex drive
