Therapeutic effects of Zimaks: Cefixime belongs to the third generation of cephalosporin antibiotic. It acts by hindering the peptidoglycan formation which is the most important element of the bacterial cell. Even though it is resistant to beta-lactam, it is highly effective against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. It also acts against a broad spectrum of bacteria.
Indications: Zimaks tablets are used to treat the following bacterial infections:
- Inflammation of the middle ear (Otitis media)
- Infections of the bone, skin, and hypodermic cellular tissue
- Bacterial infection of the urogenital tract
- Inflammation of the sinuses caused by bacteria (sinusitis)
- Inflammation of the tonsils (tonsillitis)
- Pharyngitis
- Infection of the lung (Pneumonia)
- Chronic and acute bronchitis
- Sexually transmitted infection such as Gonorrhea
Zimaks tablets can be used to treat other ailments. To know more about this you should talk to your doctor.
Precautions and Restrictions: Do not use Zimaks tablets under the following conditions:
- If you are increasingly sensitive to the ingredients of this medicine or other cephalosporins
- If you have infections caused by fungus or virus
- Do not use this medicine on children younger than 6 months
- Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or if you are a nursing mother. Talk to your doctor about using this medicine if you plan to become pregnant in the near future.
Doctors are very careful while prescribing the dosage for this medicine to treat gastrointestinal infections such as colitis. This is because this medicine can cause serious side effects when used to treat gastrointestinal infections, so usually the doctor periodically monitors the patient for any reactions. Prolonged use of this medicine can make this medicine ineffective as the bacteria develop resistance to this medicine.
Side effects of Zimaks: Use of Zimaks tablets may give rise to some side effects that are contrary to what is expected. It is not certain that these adverse reactions will affect every user of this drug.
- Effects on the gastrointestinal tract such as elevated liver enzymes activity, vomiting or urge to vomit, pain in the stomach, diarrhea, and others
- Various allergic reactions such as itching, reddening of skin, rashes, etc
- Other possible side effects such as high creatinine levels, decrease in the number of white blood cells, abnormally low amount of platelets, genital candidiasis, inflammation or infection of the vulva and vagina, cephalalgia, etc
