Active Ingredients:

  • Gentamicin

Therapeutic effect of Gentamicin: Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and it is used to treat infections. It works by interjection in the process of protein synthesis and it binds itself to the 30S bacterial ribosome. The drug is injected intravenously, intramuscularly or cutaneous in the body. Oral ingestion of the drug is ineffective because the drug does not reach the liver.

Indications: Gentamicin eliminates gram negative and positive bacterial strains. It can be used to treat infections in:

  • inflammation of the inside lining of the heart chambers and endocardium
  • blood
  • kidney
  • gall bladder and bile duct
  • lung
  • bacterial prostatitis

Precautions and Restrictions: Patients suffering from any of the following conditions should not be prescribed or use Gentamicin:

  • high sensitivity to any ingredient of this drug
  • any kind of Kidney disease
  • hearing problem
  • parkinson's disease
  • disorders that affect the nerves controlling the body's voluntary muscles
  • any stage of pregnancy
  • are in a Lactation period

Side Effects: The common side-effects of Gentamicin are:

  • Upset stomach
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue and sleepiness
  • Pale skin

A patient taking Gentamicin might have no side effects at all. However, each person reacts differently to the medicine and if you experience any of the following side effects you should consult a doctor or the nearest health care facility immediately.

  • Dizziness
  • Vertigo
  • Ear ringing
  • Loss of hearing
  • Numbness in body parts
  • Myasthenia or muscle weakness
  • Breathing problems
  • Decreased urination
  • Rash
  • Itching
