Therapeutic effect of Fortum: Ceftazidime belongs to a category of antibiotics called cephalosporin antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infection that affects various parts of the body. This antibiotic is very effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa but has weak or no action against gram-positive bacteria. Ceftazidime either prevents the multiplication of the bacteria or totally incapacitates it. Ceftazidime is used to treat bacterial infections so it has no effect on virus or infections caused by it.
Indications: Ceftazidime, the main ingredient of Fortum, is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic and it is very effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Precautions and Restrictions: Talk to a doctor if you have the following conditions:
- Allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics or to other antibiotics that are grouped under penicillin. If you are allergic to penicillin then there is good chance that you may also be allergic to Fortum
- If you are currently suffering or have a history of kidney problems
Side effects of Fortum: Use of Fortum can cause certain side effects that are wholly of partly unintended. The below mentioned adverse reactions may or may not occur and proof of such reactions experienced by one person is no proof that other patients will suffer from the same side effects as well. Some of the side effects that may be caused by Fortum are:
- Yeast infection of the mucus membrane in the mouth and tongue which causes white sore tongue and mouth (oral thrush)
- Female candidiasis which causes vaginal itching, discharge and soreness (vaginal thrush)
- Pain, numbness and swelling at the location of the injection
- Abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea
- Bad taste in the mouth
- Cephalalgia
- Dizziness
- Tingling feeling
Some of the serious but rare side effects are:
- Epileptic seizure
- Involuntary muscle contraction and relaxation involving twitching (Tremor)
- Inability to think clearly (Confusion)
- Jaundice
- Ulcers in the mouth, sore throat and feeling severe cold
- Easy bruising and bleeding
- If you experience any allergic reaction to this medicine then visit a doctor or an emergency care center at once.
