Therapeutic effect of Cephalexin: Cephalexin is a first generation Cephalosporin antibiotic which inhibits the multiplication and growth of bacteria. Cephalexin is highly potent against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Like many other antibiotics, Cephalexin restricts the production of an essential protein that plays a crucial role in the development of a bacterial cell wall.

Indications: Cephalexin is used in the treatment of the following:

  • Infection on the skin
  • Wounds
  • Infection of the urinary tract
  • Infections of the lung, windpipe and nose
  • Throat infection
  • Ear infection
  • Infection of the kidney due to bacteria (Pyelonephritis)

Precautions and Restrictions: Do not use Cephalexin if you have the following conditions:

  • Allergic reaction to Cephalexin or any of its ingredients
  • Of inherited or acquired disorders of certain enzymes in the heme bio-synthetic pathway
  • Mental disorders
  • If you are a breast feeding mother
  • If you are pregnant then consult a doctor before taking this medicine

Side effects of Cephalexin While taking Cephalexin there is always a distant possibility of some kind of adverse effect that is wholly or partly unintended. The side effects are only a distant possibility and there are no prior proven records of such effects being caused by Cephalexin.

Some of the adverse effects that may occur while using this drug are:

  • Swelling in the large intestine
  • Dizziness
