Drug name: Cedax

Active Ingredients:

  • Ceftibuten

Therapeutic effect of Cedax: Cedax is made using Ceftibuten dehydrate and it is used as an antibiotic. This antibiotic restricts the synthesis of peptidoglycane, which is essential in the development of the bacterial cell wall. The active ingredients in Cedax inhibit the development of peptidoglycane thereby preventing the growth of bacterial cell wall and restricting the rapid growth and multiplication of the bacteria.

This drug is highly potent against gram negative bacteria like Moraxella catarrhalis and Haemophilus influenza; and gram positive bacteria including Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., P. vulgaris, Providencia, Proteus mirabilis, K.pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, E.coli, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumonia.

Indications: Cedax is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Skin infections
  • Infections of soft tissues
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI) caused by bacteria like E.coli, Shigella, and Salmonella
  • Inflammation of the tonsils
  • Soreness, pain, and discomfort in the throat
  • Acute Otitis Media
  • Acute inflammation of the main passage to the lungs that is caused by bacteria like Streptococcus pneumonia, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Haemophilus influenza

Precautions and Restrictions: If you are pregnant women or a young child then use this drug only after consulting a doctor. Strictly avoid using Cedax if you have the following:

  • Swelling in the large intestine
  • Acute diarrhea
  • Renal failure
  • Any type of severe liver disorder
  • Allergic to Cedax or any of its ingredients

Side effects of Cedax: There are certain side effects of Cedax that may effect some people. But it is not certain that these side effects will take place in all people.

  • Infection of the large intestine (colon)
  • Aplastic anemia, Granulopenia, neutropenia, hemorrhage, hemolytic anemia, and reduction of the amount of red and white blood cells
  • Hepatic cholestasis
  • Kidney damage caused by the effects of a nephrotoxin
  • Kidney failure
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome which is a skin disorder due to an allergic reaction or infection
  • Allergic reactions like rashes, drugs induced fever, and anaphylaxis
