Drug name: Peritol

Active Ingredients:

  • Cyproheptadine

Therapeutic effects of Peritol: Cyproheptadine, the active ingredient of Peritol, first-generation antihistamine with additional anticholinergic, antiserotonergic, and local anesthetic properties. Peritol prevents increased secretion of somatotropin in acromegaly and secretion of ACTH in Itsenko-Cushing syndrome. This medicine is also used for treating migraine.

Indications: Peritol is administered to treat:

  • Various allergic reactions such as angioedema, hives, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic dermatitis
  • Various skin disorders such as eczema, atopic dermatitis, toxicodermatosis, and dermatitis
  • Poor appetite or loss of appetite
  • Inflammation of the pancreas (Chronic pancreatitis)
  • Migraine

Precautions and Restrictions: Do not use this medicine under the following circumstances:

  • If you are allergic or increasingly sensitive to the active ingredient of this medicine
  • Pyloroduodenal obstruction
  • Urinary bladder neck obstruction
  • If you are pregnant
  • If you are a nursing mother
  • Ischuria
  • Enlarged Prostate
  • If the user is an elderly person
  • Conditions that lead to damage to the optic nerve (Glaucoma)
  • If the user is below 12 years of age
  • If you are currently using MAOI Antidepressants
  • Pyloric stenosis
  • Sudden asthma attack
  • Do not use this medicine on premature or new born babies
  • Symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy

It is advisable to talk to a doctor about before using this medicine if you have intraocular pressure, hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular diseases, and asthma.

Warning!

  • Drinking alcohol while using Peritol may cause drowsiness and dizziness, hence do not drive or use machinery while the effect lasts.
  • This medicine may cause excitation in young children.

Side effects of Peritol: Use of Peritol may give rise to some side effects that are contrary to what is expected. It is not certain that these adverse reactions will affect every user of this drug.

  • Problems of the central nervous system such as myalgia, excitement in children, dry mouth, cephalalgia, dizziness, and somnolence
